This is a working list of locations where two or more POTA parks actually overlap geographically, so one activation can count for more than one reference. A few of these are from my own logs (Hot Springs and Gulpha Gorge, for example). The rest come from activators who already ran the combination. Being close on a map is not the same as a valid stack…read the tier on each card before you drive out. If you know one that’s not on the list, submit it for review. Every entry is sorted into one of these categories, and the tier matters — read it before you count on a stack:
- Confirmed — a real activator logged it, or the geometry has been directly verified.
- Worth Trying, Not Yet Confirmed — plausible and matches a known-good pattern, but nobody's field-confirmed it.
- Probably Isn't Real — looks valid on the map, but there's a specific, documented reason to doubt it.
- Checked and Ruled Out — someone actually verified it and it doesn't hold up. Kept here so the same mistake doesn't get repeated.
- Pending Verification — reported, but not yet checked either way.

What is POTA?
Parks on the Air (POTA) is an amateur radio activity where operators set up radio equipment at parks, forests, trails, and other public lands, then make contact with other radio operators around the world. Every park has its own reference number, and activators earn credit — and sometimes awards — for the parks they operate from.

What equipment do I need to do POTA activations?
POTA is, by and large, an HF activity — you'll need an HF-capable radio and an HF antenna, not a VHF/UHF handheld. Technicians do have some real HF privileges (10 meters, plus CW-only segments on parts of 80/40/15m), but General class is what opens up the bulk of where POTA activity actually happens — 20m and 40m especially.
What I use and recommend: a Yaesu FT-710 paired with a Buddistick Pro antenna. That combination covers the bands you'll actually use in the field, and the Buddistick sets up fast without needing trees or a lot of space.
If you're looking for a lower-cost way in, a Xiegu G90 is a solid budget HF radio, and a simple end-fed half-wave wire antenna is a cheap, effective way to get on HF without much setup hassle.
Beyond the radio and antenna, you'll want a lightweight LiFePO4 battery for power — I use a Bioenno LiFePO4 battery — plus a way to log your contacts in the field.
What is a multi-park activation?
A multi-park activation (also called a two-fer, three-fer, and so on, depending on the count) happens when two or more POTA-eligible references physically overlap at the same spot — a state park sitting inside a national forest, or a trail running through a wildlife refuge, for example. Operate from that overlap point, and a single activation can count toward multiple parks at once.
The catch: two references being close together on a map is not the same as their boundaries actually overlapping. That's exactly what this page tracks — which combinations are genuinely confirmed, which are worth trying but unproven, and which look real but probably aren't.
How do I submit logs for a multi-park activation?
POTA's rules are specific here: a separate log must be submitted for each park in the multi-park activation — not one log tagged with multiple references. Here's a simple way to do it:
- Export your activation as an ADIF file and save it.
- Make a copy of that file, so you have two identical ADIF files.
- Open the first one in Notepad. Just above where your contact data starts, insert these two lines:
<MY_SIG:4>POTA
<MY_SIG_INFO:7>US-0038(swap in your first park's reference) - Save and upload that file.
- Open your second copy in Notepad, add the same two lines but with your second park's reference instead, save, and upload it too.
Repeat with an extra file copy for each additional park if you're working a three-fer or more. Trying to list multiple references in a single file (comma-separated or otherwise) doesn't work — POTA's system expects one park per uploaded file.
Also remember: your equipment and your entire operating position must genuinely be within the overlap of every park you're claiming, or within 100 ft of the edge for a trail or river.
